Why do AURUM Bikes have this design?
When someone sees the silhouette of an AURUM for the first time, they usually recognize it immediately. Whether it’s a MAGMA, an ESSENTIA or a MANTO, there is something about its proportions, its clean lines and its distinctive high seat stays that sets it apart.
It’s not just about aesthetics.
The shapes of an AURUM are the result of a very clear design philosophy: to build the most efficient bicycle possible by using only those design elements that contribute to maximum performance.
These are the five reasons why our bikes look the way they do.
1. Because we believe in essential design
At AURUM, we don’t add shapes or styling details simply for aesthetic reasons.
Every curve, every transition and every tube section has a purpose.
That’s why our bikes feature clean, straight, purposeful lines. Smooth transitions with no unnecessary edges. If a tube doesn’t need a curve, it doesn’t have one. If a component can achieve its purpose using less material, that’s how it’s designed.
The result is an elegant, timeless structure where nothing is unnecessary and everything serves a purpose.
2. Because triangles are still the most efficient structure
Modern bicycles are still based on the same structural principle developed more than a century ago: the double triangle.
At AURUM, we strive to make the most of its structural advantages.
The high seat stays create a particularly efficient rear triangle. Their direct connection to the top tube creates a stronger structure, increases lateral stiffness and improves power transfer whenever the rider accelerates or sprints.
This design isn’t meant to attract attention. It’s designed to work better.
3. Because we pursue balance, not isolated numbers
Designing an extremely stiff bicycle is relatively straightforward.
Designing an extremely lightweight bicycle is also possible.
The real challenge is creating a bike that is stiff, lightweight, comfortable, precise and durable all at once.
Every aspect of an AURUM’s architecture is driven by this pursuit of balance. The tube layout, tube dimensions and carbon layup all work together to deliver a balanced ride in every situation.
4. Because carbon performs best when it works naturally
Carbon fiber is an extraordinary material, but it also demands respect.
The more direct the load paths through the frame, the more efficient the structure becomes. The smoother and simpler the tube shapes and transitions are, the stronger and lighter the frame and fork can be.
That’s why we avoid unnecessarily complex shapes and ensure that every tube performs as naturally as possible. This allows us to optimize strength, reduce material where it isn’t needed and make the most of carbon fiber’s unique properties.
5. Because performance can also be beautiful
Styling was never the starting point of the AURUM project.
When a structure is designed to fulfill its purpose in the most efficient way possible, using the right materials and technologies to achieve maximum performance, a distinctive style naturally emerges—a genuine form of beauty.
The high seat stays, balanced proportions, clean lines and absence of unnecessary elements are all natural consequences of our design philosophy.
When every decision is made with performance, efficiency and functionality in mind, form stops being an aesthetic choice and becomes the logical outcome of an idea.
And that idea is what defines every AURUM bike.
